HISTORY

The Tenants Union of Victoria was established in 1974. We are a community organisation with a membership base of individual tenants and members from the housing, community and welfare sectors.

The Tenants Union's aims are

  • to inform and educate tenants about their rights
  • to improve the status, rights and conditions of tenants
  • to represent and speak for the collective interests of tenants in law and policy making
  • to promote alternatives to the present forms of rental housing
  • to improve the regulation and supply of housing
  • to prevent unfair rental market practices
  • to promote the establishment of local and regional tenancy advice services
  • to research the needs and problems of tenants
  • to provide equitable and accessible services to tenants of socially, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • to encourage members and tenants to participate in Tenants Union activities

The Tenants Union is a non-profit organisation reliant on membership fees and government and community grants.

    New members are always welcome.
Please support our work and become a Tenants Union member.
